About JJS

John J Shanahan has been a working musician in STL since playing his first paid gig on March 1, 1997 at the age of 18.

Growing up in a musical family that didn’t just include going to watch his Dad’s (John Sr.) band, Atlantis, but also listening to a 3rd cousin named Michael McDonald sing on the radio and watching him on TV, from infancy, John was born with music in his soul.

Influenced by an eclectic assortment of singers and genres, you’ll hear a little bit of everything in John’s own written work, along with his variety of cover and tribute bands.

JJS and THE Band will be not only working on a follow up to their debut album, “25 Years to Life”, but will be playing some great shows for the public between now and then around STL.

John’s music he has written in the past has led him to a variety of opportunities such as opening shows in front of Breaking Benjamin, Buckcherry, Candlebox, Mike Zito, Jeremiah Johnson, and many more…

JJS projects to look for in 2025 and beyond:

JJS and THE Band (written and recorded original music, and variety of covers)

Cap’n Ed and the Catamarans (Yacht Rock)

Fortunate Son (CCR tribute)

Boot Scootin’ Bandits (70’s - 90’s country)

Peaceful Eagles Feeling (Eagles tribute)

The JJS “Sound” as described by John J Shanahan…

Some good ole rock and roll, blues, funk, soul, with the occasional hard rock kick in the ass. Killer vocal harmonies and infectious musical dynamics that will keep your neck bending around every corner. We are influenced by Motown, Grunge, Mississippi Delta Blues, The Sunset Strip, The British Invasion, Soul Train, Bakersfield, Broadway, and Church.

You’ll hear it all with JJS and THE Band.
